No Noodle Will Go Unturned
What a week! It’s been nice weather, feeling the spring freshness and the feeling of new and exciting. I’m working and working out and prepping and planning for some things coming up. Here’s what I got up to outside of the 7-4 grind.
Rana Danta new EP
My buddies in Fargo started a new band, rana danta, a punky emo riffy type style that I fucking love. They just dropped their first EP, when did you forget you were a flower? and I’ve been listening to this thing on repeat. Top three: i worship deer now, FYD, we’re good. Holy shit FYD at like 3:10?! The talent in this is fucking visible. I can hear it. I can’t wait to listen to this EP 20 more times and then again 20 more times. And now what, I have to go to Fargo?! And see them!! Maybe I will. And I’ll get a Meg tattoo while I’m at it. And see all my friends. Hmmmmmmmmm.

A Little Bit Extra Cookbook
Ryder’s cousin is the famous Chef Reilly Meehan, and I loooove to keep up with him on socials. This week he finally released his cookbook, A Little Bit Extra, and I finally got my copies in the mail! These went up for preorder before Christmas and I’ve been WAITING. It’s beautiful. It’s everything. He threw a party in NYC and he’s going on tour with it now! He was also the behind the bar guest on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live!, which, if you know me and being a Bravo fan, I was losing my mind. That’s real fame to me. No I’m kidding. But truly, so proud of him. Reilly was a young chef that started winning awards early, and it’s incredible watching him do incredible beautiful things. Ok non spons just really love you Reilly and can’t wait to cook from this book.
Noodles by Nina
Next on our list of noodle places to try across the Denver Metro area was Noodles by Nina! This place has an open window kitchen where you see them making homemade hand tossed and knife sliced noodles. Loved the atmosphere and we got in pretty quick with the two of us. I got the Tomato Egg Noodles and Ryder got the Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles, both were so good! Dan Dan were nice and spicy. I’ve been wanting to try tomato egg noodles as we’ve seen them on other noodle shop menus so I went for it and am happy I did! Came with knife sliced noodles, tomatoes and a tomato sauce and some eggs. We really enjoyed and want to go back!! Then we went to Dairy Queen and got some blizzards for dessert.

Wooden Spoon
In the spirit of trying new places, we headed over Wooden Spoon for our Saturday morning coffee and pastry fix. Wowowow the pastries did not disappoint! And the spicy chai was exactly what I want in a spicy chai. I also got a brown sugar cardamom oatmilk latte. For pastries we got a prosciutto and Swiss croissant, a raspberry and chocolate cream cheese danish, and a lemon poppyseed bread. Big big fan of their pastries and breakfast choices! Note, the inside is quite small but there is outdoor seating as well.
My Gorgeous Back Issues
I was a gymnast for some 16 years and it was tough on my body as you might imagine. When I went to college I stopped exercising and my body started fighting back. I’d throw my back out every six months, go see the chiropractor for 5 minutes, and then wait for it to happen again. When I moved to Denver the pain I was in was making my quality of life, daily, very bad. I said I’d do something, so I started going to Nikau Chiropractic (where I still go, see below), and started my healing. I got x rays of my back which showed a piece of bone missing, and at the time I was putting 10+ more pounds on my head and one side of my body because of the pain I was in and compensating for it. I religiously went to the chiro and worked out and it’s been getting better for 6 years. But has it? I still have issues that will immobilize me. I’m at another point where I think I need to chat with my doctor about what this might be. I have a hunch that I’m hypermobile, neurodivergent, possible EDS or POTS or something. So I’m going to figure that out! But lately I’ve been in pain and having issues.
Getting in to the chiropractorrrrr
I’ve been going to Nikau Chiropractic since I moved to Denver some 5 years ago, and I will forever sing praises of Dr. Lauren (founder of Nikau)! She has been my trusted chiro and friend and I truly recommend her/Nikau to anyone in the metro area. I’ve met so many wonderful people through coming here, and always look forward to my chats with Dr. Lauren. I’ve been trying to get back in every couple weeks or so since my ribs are finally back up to it; right after I broke them I knew I’d have to wait a bit to get adjusted because of how much pain I was experiencing. I live close to the Uptown Nikau so love to pop over there for a quick adjustment and I always walk out feeling so much better. Being a gymnast for so many years and continuing on to do a lot of exercise and outdoor activities, it’s a part of recovery that ebbs and flows for me - more when I need it and less when I don’t.

Our friend Johnna flew back into town so she met us here for lunch! We initially wanted to go to Welton Street Cafe but it was closed when we pulled up so we drove around RiNo to see what was open and went to the Denver Central Market to sit and eat and chat. I got a fab breakfast sandwich from Call Your Mother, Ryder got a pizza, and Johnna got some pasta! We got to sit outside in the sun and it was the perfect Sunday afternoon.
Robert F. Clement Park
Ryder suggested a walk around this lake park south of town and it was beautiful weather later on Sunday so we went. Y’all there were PRAIRIE DOGS basically EVERYWHERE and it was AMAZING. Okay so this park is near Columbine high school and it’s really large. On one side there’s a lake with a paved path around it, and on some of the surrounding land there’s a bunch of prairie dogs. Ducks and fish in the lake are awesome to watch. The whole loop is 1.4 miles with beautiful views of the front range and even Lake House Tavern if you want a meal. The park also has a skatepark and multiple gazebo/shaded areas, sports fields and courts, kind of an everything park. We had such a great time, it’s a bit of a drive for us but we can always find a reason and some time.

New shorts for summer
I love to wear a black plain bike short, and weirdly enough the best quality for the price is at Aritzia (they’re usually on sale for under $40? And I liiiiike?). I like their LIFE atmosphere or curvy 7” bike shorts so much. I wear these to the gym, but I also wear them extremely often in the summer because I fucking hate denim shorts and honestly most shorts in general. The chafing and waistbands and riding and discomfort is too much. So I often dress up and dress down black bike shorts. I have to go 7” because I have big thighs and 5” bike shorts just ride up and get lost. I wear them rollerblading and to farmers markets and with cute tops to dinner and for walks and they just really feel great in situations where you don’t want swass in your Canadian tuxedo.
Bravo!! Drams!!
The drama heard across the world: Carl’s a mess. Wow it’s been a week for my bravo friends, with the Summer House drama, and RHORI dropping, and myself watching S3 of RHOSLC. Firstly I cannot believe this SH drama, I can’t even say their names. All I can say is I love Ciara. I still can’t believe it’s all real. And with my restart of SH a month ago..I’m just speechless. And I kind of do think it’s wild for Kyle and Loverboy to put out merch, even if some proceeds go to a recovery foundation. I don’t know if Carl and Lindsay should be profiting with an UberEats sponsorship. But it is insane. I haven’t started RHORI yet so stay tuned for next week’s Being Better blog for those thoughts. And RHOSLC…I love you. Jen is in the middle of a legal battle, meanwhile Lisa is being Lisa and Whitney is stirring the pot. It is a big shock without Mary and Jennie (I don’t like them! But!) I do think the girls are carrying. Can’t wait to catch up more.
RHORI
Obviously I’m getting in on RHORI right from the start. I watched Ashley I on Bach and BiP and LOVE HER and Jared, and I’m pumped to see her. So far I’m just on the first episode but I’m fucking loving it. The accents are givinggggggg. I’m dying that everyone thinks they all look alike…because they do 😂I’m crying that they thought that 15 minute drive was long omg. This whole thing is incredible. Here we goooo.
Love Overboard
I love Gabby Windey!!! She hosted this new show on Hulu, Love Overboard; it just came out so I had to watch. Omg I love a first season of a new love reality show😂 these contestants were unhinged and hilarious. The fact that over half of them had to be “downsiders” and clean and cook and live below deck was so funny. Bella crashing out and being incredibly hilarious was a highlight. Go watch! It’s a fun, light show to watch right now. I loved Gabby in it, she narrated just like her podcast. I loved the drama, it was like Love Island just scrunched down shorter. The twists were perfect. I wonder if there will be another season! It was fun to watch. Maybe they’ll get another and be able to show more and make a longer season!
